Teaching Suggestions and Sample Answers

1. Although this activity begins by asking students to read through the steps, remind the students that they should always read through the steps of an activity before they begin. As suggested earlier, you may wish to ask students to diagram the steps of the activity.

a) It is hoped that students will be able to understand that they are investigating heat that is dissipated from the human body.

b) Student predictions will vary. Some may think that the water in the container with the moving hand may increase in temperature the most. Others may think that the movement of the hand may cause the temperature of the water in that container to decrease. Regardless of what they predict, be sure that they write down their prediction and that they provide an explanation.
