Activity 5: Biology to Go

1. When resources are limited, competition occurs between organisms for these resources. Resources can include food, water, space, sunlight.

2. Competition between organisms of the same species tends to stabilize a population. It is also an important factor in evolutionary change. It ensures the survival of the fittest of a given species.

3. New species introduced into an ecosystem may lack any predators and therefore may reproduce at a very rapid rate. Also, the prey of the new species may not have developed any defense mechanisms against the introduced predator.

4. In a natural setting one would expect plants to be reasonably well spaced.
