Activity 5: What Do You Think?
- Plants compete among themselves for moisture, inorganic nutrients, space,
light, and air. Resources in any ecosystem are limited.
- Plants compete through the efficiency through which they uptake
and use water and by their root distribution, both vertical and horizontal.
Student Conceptions
Students will be familiar with competition among organisms in the form
of predation in animals. The What Do You Think? questions ask the students
to consider competition among plants. Also, stress that competition can occur
among microorganisms as well. |
