Activity 8: Biology to Go
1. Photosynthesis releases oxygen that is needed in cellular respiration.
Cellular respiration, on the other hand, releases carbon dioxide,
which is needed for photosynthesis to occur.
2. Decomposers use the energy from the carbon-carbon bonds found in the dead bodies of plants and animals. It uses the carbon from the bodies to maintain
its very own body. The carbon that is not used is returned to the atmosphere
as carbon dioxide.
3. The burning of the fossil fuels releases energy and the carbon in the fuels
is returned to the atmosphere in the form of carbon dioxide.
4. a) The burning of the forests will result in less photosynthetic activity.
With decreased photosynthesis, oxygen production also decreases and
oxygen level is lower.
b) With the decrease in oxygen levels, all living things will be negatively
affected since cellular respiration needs oxygen to access the energy
in the carbon-carbon bonds. |
