Students continue the study of musical instruments by investigating the resonance of pipes. They blow into different lengths of drinking straw and observe the tone produced and also observe how the tone changes if they cover one end of the straw. They perform a similar experiment with a test tube partially filled with water. Through reading they then relate these observations to the patterns of standing waves in a tube.
