Activity Overview
To prepare for the study of lenses, students investigate refraction. By shining a beam of light into a rectangular block of clear gelatin, they observe refraction as the light enters and leaves the gelatin. The students measure the angles of incidence and refraction and tabulate the results. They also observe total internal reflection and measure the critical angle. |
