The electromagnet can be supported by pushing the large end into a slit rubber stopper (slit along its length into the hole in the center) and mounting the stopper in a test-tube holder on a ring stand. You or the students will probably have to drill holes in the mounting board, although this can be done with hand drills if you use wood screws. If you have a supply of simple hand tools at you desk, you can be ready for any requests.
