What Do You Think?

The higher the frequency, the more rapidly information can be sent. However the information is coded, the detector must receive some minimum number of wave cycles in order to respond to a pulse of radiation. The higher the frequency, the less time is required to reach this minimum number. Another consideration is the number of signals carried at one time by a telephone line. Each signal is at a different frequency. Each signal needs a bandwidth of about 10 kHz, since the frequency must vary by about that amount to transmit speech (think of transmitting a radio signal by frequency modulation). The higher the frequency, the more such band widths can be packed into the available range of frequencies.
